The eONE-FORTY is the little sibling to our award-winning eONE-SIXTY, but when it comes to providing agile handling and superb flow, it plays second fiddle to no one. Equipped with Shimano’s powerful EP8 drive unit and with a 630 Wh battery integrated seamlessly into the carbon front triangle, it’s the perfect partner for any adventure.

The balanced trail geometry is paired to mixed size 29er/27.5” wheels that deliver flow and fun for riders of all abilities, while a steeper seat angle boosts climbing capability. The low bottom bracket and standover height help confidence while the 140 mm of front and 133 mm of rear wheel travel offer up real rough terrain capability.

The eONE-FORTY’s go-anywhere, SUV versatility is boosted with EQ models that are equipped with guards, rack, lights and kickstand for the street as well as trail.

INTENDED USE

Geometry, travel and specification make this bike perfect for trail riding but also for long-distance rides. It doesn’t matter if it's a playful trail or a multi-day ride across the Alps, the carbon eONE-FORTY is your faithful companion.

But besides its trail riding and long-distance abilities, the eONE-FORTY is also a hugely capable and enjoyable ‘SUV’ bike. Because of the travel, the comfortable and upright riding position, the eONE-FORTY gives a lot of confidence and offers a real alternative to a ‘normal’ mountain bike.

KEY COMPONENTS

ENERGY GUARD

A two-component battery cover, which offers perfect protection for the battery. The softer (outer) layer reduces noises, seals the downtube perfectly and absorbs hits from stones easily, while the harder (inner) layer ensures that the battery does not get damaged and gives it the structural shape. All crucial parts like the rubber strap and o-rings for perfect fitting can be replaced.

THERMO GATE

Specifically located openings near the head tube which work like a chimney and allow the warm air to dissipate to guarantee the optimum operating temperature of the internal battery. The THERMO GATE enables the battery to perform at its best, in all conditions.

MERIDA EXPERT TR AXLE

Through axle with a removable axle lever. The lever (when inserted into the axle) allows easy loosening and tightening of the axle. When removed, it works as a 4 mm Allen key, perfect for tightening the seat clamp or the stem bolt, while also ideal for removing the battery or activating the battery 'wake up' button.

HIDDEN KICK-STAND ATTACHMENT POINTS

The latest eONE-FORTY frames offer hidden attachment points for a kick-stand underneath the chain stay, perfect for making the bike more versatile if used as an ‘SUV’ bike.

SHIMANO BATTERY

Powerful internal lithium-ion battery that offers a 630 Wh internal battery (504 Wh in size XS frames), charges up from 0-100% in 6 hours (when EC-E8004 charger is used) and retains at least 60% of its original battery capacity after 1,000 charging cycles. The aluminium cased battery is extremely compact, allowing us to seamlessly integrate it into the downtube for ample space for the rear shock, added water bottle fixing points and plenty of top tube clearance. It has a waterproof design and is impact and vibration resistant.

MERIDA EXPERT eTR COCKPIT

The EXPERT eTR cockpit offers internal cable routing for the e-system cables through the handlebar and stem for an extra clean and organised look. The latest eTRII stem also features secure attachment points for the Lezyne front light via its unique clamping plate.  As all our e-bike specific parts, the eTR cockpit is tested for a 140 kg system weight.

MERIDA EXPERT TR DROPPER SEAT POST

MERIDA dropper post allows you to get the saddle out of the way when the gradient gets steeper, giving you more space to manoeuvre and control over the bike. Our 150mm post fits completely into the seat tube of an L size frame, while the XL and XXL frame can accommodate even a 170 mm dropper. As all our e-bike specced parts, it has been tested and certified for a 140 kg system weight.

LEZYNE FRONT AND REAR LIGHTS

The carbon eONE-FORTY range features the latest Lezyne Power Pro front and Femto rear light. The front light attaches securely to our stem clamp plate, keeping the light perfectly fixed to the bike without cluttering the cockpit area. It draws its power from the main battery and can be easily operated from the Shimano display unit. The rear light is rechargeable (via a mini USB port) and is perfectly capable of withstanding even the wettest of outings. Both lights offer excellent visibility during the day as well as evening and dawn rides.

SHIMANO SHIFTER-R CONTROLLER

Very compact and well-defined assist level controller that helps to keep the cockpit clean and less cluttered, while it also enables easy access to paddle-style dropper seat post levers. It fits neatly to the brake lever bracket and is positioned underneath the handlebars.

RIDE THE REVOLUTION

SHIMANO EP8 DRIVE UNIT

The entire eONE-FORTY carbon range is powered by the latest EP8 motor from Shimano. This modern power unit brings a long list of upgrades and changes to the table that elevate the eONE-FORTY to the next level. The EP8 unit delivers a maximum power output of 85 Nm, which is an increase of 15 Nm from the previous E8000 unit. This improves the performance on extreme terrain as well as lifting up the other support levels, making them universally more capable and more fun to use. Paired with the high-capacity 630 Wh battery, the EP8 system delivers a huge range extension, making it easier to cruise for longer or do more runs.

Further to that, the power unit has lost approx. 300 g in weight, has further improved its heat-resistance, allowing the rider to go harder for longer, is quieter and smaller and has managed to achieve a 36% reduction in drag, making cruising about the cut-out speed even easier.  All this helps to deliver smooth, direct power to ensure that the rider is always in complete control while experiencing a natural ride feel.

COMPARISON

eONE-FORTY AND eONE-SIXTY

The carbon eONE-FORTY and eONE-SIXTY share the same frame but differ a lot in terms of riding character. The difference between the two bikes is that the shock stroke on the eONE-FORTY is shorter. That reduces the rear travel to 133 mm instead of 150 mm that the eONE-SIXTY offers. On top of that, the shorter 140 mm travel fork extends the reach of the eONE-FORTY in comparison to the eONE-SIXTY, which is equipped with a 160 mm fork. That's the reason why the eONE-FORTY has different sizing compared to eONE-SIXTY. A frame with a 44 cm seat tube length, for example, is a size L in the eONE-FORTY, but at the eONE-SIXTY, it is a size M. We believe that a bike with less travel should be more agile and playful than one with more travel, and the reach has a significant influence on that.

Compared to the eONE-SIXTY, the seat angle at the eONE-FORTY is almost one degree steeper, and the front is lower because of the shorter travel fork and the shorted head tube. This puts more weight on the front of the bike and gives the eONE-FORTY better climbing performance as the front wheel rises later than at the eONE-SIXTY. Also, due to the shorted fork, the head angle is almost one degree steeper making the bike feel less wobbly at lower speeds. Again, a positive attribute for uphills.

Another big difference compared to the eONE-SIXTY is that the stand over height is lower. The reason for that is the lesser travel, shorter head tube and lower bottom bracket height. Especially for beginners, the lower stand over height gives a lot of confidence. The eONE-FORTY is a perfect match for shorter riders in particular as there are not many brands which can offer such good clearance.

The eONE-FORTY is also slightly lighter than the eONE-SIXTY. The reason is that the components are less downhill oriented. So, for example, fork, shocks and tyres are lighter, having a further positive effect on the climbing performance.
